A thought:

Nobody likes this quote. It seems to say that we can't really improve things, and that we should stick to self-improvement. There are a lot of scoldy sayings that are along these lines. But I think it is about the other side of that, too, that by improving our own corner, we never know how much we may improve someone else's corner, and that can set off a chain. You never know.
